A Tribute to Dr Bambang Tiksnadi MD, PhD (1948 β 2019)
Dr Bambang Tiksnadi passed away on 5 February 2019 after a battle with cancer. He was 71 years old. Bambang Tiksnadi was born on 27 May 1948 in Lubuk Linggau in South Sumatra. He completed his medical education at the Padjadjaran University in 1974 and went on to do the residency program in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Quezon City, Philippines from 1984 to 1986. He subsequently graduated as a Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology from University of Indonesia, Jakarta in 1987.
Dr Bambang Tiksnadi continued his clinical training and attended Specialist Training courses in Spine surgery at the Chinese University, Prince of Wales Hospital in 1987, Catholic University Hospital, Nijmegen, Netherland in 1989 and at Royal Perth Hospital, Australia in 1991. Throughout his career, he continued to pursue higher education and in 2001 he graduated from Padjadjaran University with a Majister (equivalent of Master) of Management and as a Doctor of Philosophy in 2008.
Dr Tiksnadiβs accomplishments were many. He held several positions during his illustrious career at Dr Hasan Sadikin General Hospital in Bandung. He was Head, Emergency Department (1988β1998), Head, Orthopaedics and Traumatology Department (1988β2002) and Head Spine Division (1990β2013).

In addition, Dr Tiksnadi was very active in national and international professional associations. He was Chairman of the Indonesian Orthopaedic Association from 2004 to 2006, Chairman of the Indonesian Spine Society from 2005 to 2007, President of the ASEAN Orthopaedic Association from 2006 to 2007 and President of the Asia Pacific Association of Diabetic Limb Problems (APADLP) from 2016 to 2018. In October 2018, during the 15th Asia Pacific Conference of Diabetic Limb Problems in Kaohsiung Taiwan, he was awarded the Pioneer and Lifetime Achievement Award by the APADLP.

Dr Tiksnadi was a caring man who devoted much time as a Member of the Humanitarian Services Committee of the Indonesian Orthopaedic Association. He was one of the pioneers in the relief effort to help those affected by the Tsunami in Aceh in 2004, the Jogjakarta Earthquake in 2006 and the Tsunami in Pangandaran in 2006.
Dr Bambang Tiksnadi was deeply committed to his work, his patients, his students and above all, his family. He will be mourned by the many lives he has touched through his exemplary teaching, professional contribution, compassionate patient care and loyal friendship. He will be missed.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Dr Hadiawati and two loving children Dr Amanda and Dr Badai Bhatar.Β
