Message from the International Wound Infection Institute:
The prevalence of wound infection is a global and often under-reported crisis. There is an urgent need to raise awareness of effective identification, prevention and management strategies of wound infection for health care professionals, the general public, patients and carers.

The ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have exacerbated the issue of late patient presentation and increased wound complexity, so we all have a responsibility to know and understand the signs and symptoms of wound infection. Additionally there is a growing international issue surrounding antimicrobial resistance; we need to increase awareness of accurate assessment and appropriate use of antimicrobials implementing antimicrobial stewardship programmes. Working together to promote effective wound infection identification, prevention and management strategies is vital.
